Roslyn Franken's family history is a powerful tale of survival and a testament to resilience. Her mother, from Rijssen in the Netherlands, endured the horrors of Nazi concentration camps including Auschwitz during World War II. Meanwhile her father, originally from Semarang in the former Dutch East Indies, survived the Nagasaki atomic bomb while held as a prisoner of war in Japan. Their remarkable strength in the face of such unimaginable adversity is awe-inspiring.
To share her parents' extraordinary journey, Roslyn authored the award-winning book "Meant to Be: A True Story of Might, Miracles, and Triumph of the Human Spirit." As an internationally acclaimed speaker, she delivers dynamic presentations, captivating audiences with the profound narrative of her book. Especially in today's climate of increasing division and adversity, coupled with the alarming rise in teen depression and suicide, the importance of sharing Roslyn's story of incredible survival, love, and triumph over tragedy cannot be overstated. Now more than ever, young people everywhere need to hear this message of hope and resilience. In 2023, Roslyn journeyed to the Netherlands to address students at Maurick College in Vught, a town near the site of Camp Vught, where her mother had been imprisoned before her transfer to Auschwitz. Learning of Roslyn's visit, Gymnasium Beekvliet school in Sint-Michielsgestel eagerly seized the chance to invite her to speak there as well. These events marked Roslyn's first live speaking engagements in Europe, attracting media attention from DTV Nieuws Dutch television and the Brabants Dagblad Dutch newspaper. Additionally, she was featured in an article in Het Klaverblad newspaper for her presentation in Vught via Zoom in 2022. In February 2024, Roslyn participated in a Global Citizenship program, delivering a presentation that connected a school in the Netherlands with schools in Ottawa, Canada. |
